The Athens Land Trust and the Oconee River Land Trust are partnering together for a fourth time to host Spirit of the Land. This annual event consists of a curated art exhibit and sale of art by local artists, and a closing gala benefit. Spirit of the Land serves to increase awareness about our community’s shrinking green spaces and is the major fundraiser for each land trust. Sugar Hill Records Recording Artist Scott Miller, who mixes folk with rock, has been featured on the WB Network as the band leader for Jeff Foxworthy’s “Blue Collar TV.” Warming up will be The Wydells.

Twilight Toasts just keeps getting better and better! If you haven’t tried Twilight Toasts yet, now’s the time to meet all of those who wouldn’t want to miss one! Twilight Toasts is an evening adult gathering in the Conservatory, with live music, light hors d’oeuvres and a wine tasting from Gosford Wine. Our horticultural segment this time will be an herb tasting, looking at fresh herbs and tasting herbed butters and oils on fresh bread from Big City Bread. Mmm…yum! Digital technology reveals the beauty of nature in Robert Creamer’s latest work, an exhibition created by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration the National Museum of Natural History. “Transitions” features 39 of Robert Creamer’s high-resolution images created exclusively for the exhibition. “My maturing imagination returns me again and again to botanicals. I enjoy exploring the transitory nature of beauty and am constantly enthused by the serendipitous understandings and new relationships that this technique reveals to me,” said Creamer. 4th Annual Student Art Competition
Jessica Bolfik Wins 1st Place
Winners of the 2008 Student Art Competition are now on display in the Garden Visitor Center and Conservatory. The winners were: Jessica Bolfik 1st Place, Sutawee N. Thitaram 2nd Place, Amy Michel 3rd Place. Come out an view these wonderfull works while on display. Winning artwork will also be used to create signature items for the Gift Shopother media.
