AKD: International Sociology Honor Society

Alpha Kappa Delta, also known as AKD, is an international sociology honor society whose purpose is to stimulate scholarship and the scientific study of sociology. Started in 1920 at the University of Southern California, AKD currently includes over 80,000 members in 490 recognized chapters chartered in the United States, China, Finland, Canada, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Singapore. Qualification for membership into AKD is as follows:

  1. Student must be an officially declared Sociology Major.
  2. Student must be at least a junior or a third year student.
  3. Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in Sociology classes and overall at UGA.
  4. Have completed at least four courses in sociology prior to initiation.
  5. Pay a one-time fee of $45.00 for lifetime membership and $7.00 for an honor cord (optional).

Initiation into AKD means lifetime membership. It also means a dedication to the improvement of the overall human condition. AKD membership is a great opportunity, so take advantage! Applications are available through the link below and outside the sociology advising office.
