Dr. Dean G. Rojek Email
(Curriculum Vitae) Dr. Dean Rojek, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been at the University of Georgia since 1978.
He received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin in 1975.
Dr. Rojek's most recent work examines
homicide data from city of Atlanta for the past 30 years. He is interested in looking at victim-offender relationships, prior criminal records of victims and offenders, and the issue of drug involvement on the part of victims and offenders. He has been focusing specifically on cocaine and alcohol involvement and how these drugs relate to disinhibition and aggression.
Dr. Rojek has had a continuing interest in studying the evolution of law in China from informal, grass roots social control to a formalized legal system. China has been trying to Westernize its legal system and in the process abandoning traditional social control strategies. Crime is increasing in China and the move to a formalized legal system may exacerbate the problems of crime and delinquency in this society.
Dr. Rojek is interested in looking at adolescent drug involvement and the role of parents, school and peers in facilitating or inhibiting drug usage. Currently he is gathering data on DUI prevention and attempting to apply a strategy of shaming and reintegration in what are known as victim impact panels.
