Dr. James E. Coverdill
(Curriculum Vitae) Dr. James E. Coverdill, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been at the University of Georgia since receiving a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University in 1991. Dr. Coverdill's primary areas of research are work, organizations, and research methods. He is currently drafting manuscripts about "on call" contingent work (based on a qualitative study of the work of substitute teachers in collaboration with Pierre Oulevey) and the implications of changes to the temporal conditions of professional work (based on a mixed-method study of surgical residents and faculty in collaboration with two surgeons, Drs. John Mellinger and Gina Adrales, and his sociological colleague William Finlay). A new mixed-method collaborative project with John Mellinger on the relative appeal of private practice vs. academic positions will begin in the spring of 2006.
