Laboratory for the Study of Social Interaction (LaSSI)
Researchers at the Laboratory for the Study of Social Interaction conduct social psychological research on topics like (1) status and power processes in interaction, (2) emotions and social identities, (3) justice and legitimation processes, and (4) social networks. Our research has close ties with similar sociological traditions including work in affect control theory and group processes more generally. LaSSI is affiliated with several faculty members in the Department of Sociology including Dawn T. Robinson (LaSSI Director), Jody Clay-Warner (LaSSI Associate Director) and James Balkwell. In addition, graduate students Tiffani Everett (LaSSI Lab Manager), Jennifer McMahon and Kimberly Kelly are also affiliated.
Institute for Behavioral Research (IBR)
The Institute for Behavioral Research works to provide services, information, and support that can enhance the quality, comprehensiveness, and relevance of social and behavioral research at the University. The focus of the Institute for Behavioral Research is to provide a stimulating intellectual environment to promote interdisciplinary research efforts, facilitate faculty development, and emphasize the value of extramural support. Sociology faculty engage in various positions at IBR and include Executive Committee members (Paul Roman and Ron Simons), Faculty Fellows (Jody Clay-Warner, Thomas McNulty, and Dawn Robinson), Mentoring Fellows (Joseph Hermanowicz, , and Leigh Willis).
