PARKOUR - THE ART OF MOVEMENT

Traceur jumping in the air. Your environment is limiting your ability to move. Parkour is a physical discipline inspired by human movement, focusing on fast, efficient motion over, under, and around obstacles in one's environment. Such movement may come in the form of running, jumping, climbing, and other more complex techniques. The goal of parkour is to adapt one's movement to any given obstacle.

So what does that mean? How about those rails that are blocking you from entering your favorite field or park? You could step over one foot at a time, or duck under, but what if you didn't even need to slow down? Rails are a common obstacle faced by traceurs (a practitioner of parkour) and are only one of the many obstacles we train to overcome.

OUR MISSION

Traceur jumping in the air. Our mission is to aid both beginner and advanced traceurs train for parkour. We emphasize heavy conditioning to ensure resistance and longevity of the human body. If the body is unprepared, repetition of large drops or techniques can cause harm. Dan Edwards of Parkour Generations says, "In order to practice parkour, one must become like iron."

Are you like iron? It doesn't matter if you're completely out of shape, or if you think you're strong. Come train with us, and expect the workout of your life. The best part: the toughest conditioning has everything to do with slow, deliberate movements -- so don't worry about getting up to speed; we'll start you off slow.

THE COMMUNITY

Traceur jumping in the air. Parkour at UGA is part of several parkour communities, including: Overflux (Southeast USA) and American Parkour (North America), and Parkour Spot (worldwide). We highly encourage members to participate in these friendly communities, in order to learn more about parkour from traceurs all over America. We regularly host and attend events to train, to encourage, and to forge lasting friendships with members from these communities.

If you really want to improve your life, why not do it with friends? You're training to improve yourself, creating a lifestyle of good health with others who want the same. Parkour isn't a race to see who is "best", it's a journey to improve yourself. Best of all, it's completely free. The result is simple: you'll have fun, become stronger, and make great friends in the process.

OUR TRAINING

Training sessions are informal and fun--you take training as far as you want and get what you put into it, so you could do a complete conditioning regimine or just fool around jumping, whatever suits you. Come wearing comfortable clothing and with some energy, and you'll be fine. Anybody of any skill is welcome! We're not out to show off or to compete, but to have fun using the campus as our playground and gym.

Event Schedule:

Practice: Tues / Thurs, 6pm, Tate Student Center plaza (map)

Check Overflux for upcoming events in the Southeast.

Get started!

The best way to get started is to see for yourself. Come train with us at one of our events. Anybody is welcome--all ages and physical abilities. We're not out to show off or to compete, but to have fun.
