Entrance/Exit Counseling for Loans
The University of Georgia is required to provide entrance and exit counseling to Federal Direct loan recipients. Federal regulations require the University to counsel each loan recipient regarding their Rights and Responsibilities as a borrower.
Entrance Counseling
Manage your educational expenses. Before receiving a student loan, borrowers must complete an entrance counseling session. This quick and easy interactive counseling session provides useful tips and tools to help you develop a budget for managing your educational expenses and helps you to understand your loan responsibilities.
William D. Ford Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and the Graduate PLUS Loan
The University of Georgia participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Direct
Loans, including Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Parent PLUS and Graduate PLUS loans are made through the U.S. Department of Education. No private lenders or loan Guarantee Agencies are involved. These loans are managed,
serviced and collected by the Direct Loan Servicing Center, an agency contracted by the U.S.
Department of Education.
The University of Georgia awards the loan,
electronically transmits loan records to the Direct Loan
Servicing Center and disburses loan
money to students. Federal regulations require the University to counsel each loan
recipient as to their Rights and Responsibilities as a borrower. Loan recipients must complete
entrance counseling before the University can make the first loan disbursement to the borrower.
Entrance counseling is required for Subsidized, Unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loans.

In order for Student Accounts to know you have completed the entrance counseling requirement be sure you choose The University of Georgia as the school you are attending.
Otherwise you will have to provide Student Accounts your quiz results which can be printed from their web site or
a signed copy of the Rights and Responsibilities statement. Should you have any questions

Exit Counseling
Understand your rights and responsibilities... Prior to graduating or leaving college, borrowers are required to complete an exit counseling session. This online exit counseling session has been created to make sure you understand your rights and responsibilities as a Federal Direct Loan borrower.
William D. Ford Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans
Students who have borrowed through the Federal Direct Loan Program (Subsidized, Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS) while at the University of Georgia are required by law to participate in exit

In order for the University of Georgia Student Accounts office to be notified you have completed on-line exit counseling, be sure the University of Georgia is listed as your current school of attendence. You will be asked this question after you have completed and passed the exit counseling quiz. Otherwise, you will have to provide Student Accounts with a copy of the Borrowers Information and the Rights and Responsibilities Summary Checklist you are prompted to print during the on-line exit counseling session.
