Bylaws

BY-LAWS OF THE UGA MATHEMATICS CLUB


1) STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The University of Georgia Mathematics Club will aspire to serve as an arena for mathematics discussions and as a social organization for person of similar interests.

2) MEMBERSHIP
Eligibility for membership is based on interest instead of major or classification; hence any undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Georgia is eligible for membership proved dues, determined by the club in the meeting in which officers are elected, have been paid.

3) OFFICERS
The officers for the University of Georgia Mathematics Club shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, two of which shall be undergraduates, and a Faculty Advisor.

4) PRESIDENT
The duties of the president shall include arranging meetings, presiding at meetings, appointing committees, and delegating chores as necessary, contacting and inviting to service the elected faculty advisor, making sure that members and faculty advisors are involved in club activities and projects.

5) VICE PRESIDENT
The duties of the vice president shall include serving in the place of the president if the president is unable to serve, assuming the presidency if the president resigns and communicating club information.

6) TREASURER
The duties of the treasurer shall include managing club funds and collecting dues from members as prescribed. The treasurer shall make a financial report at the meeting in which officers are elected.

7) SECRETARY
The duties of the secretary shall include keeping a record of actions taken, membership, and other club information as necessary.

8) FACULTY ADVISOR
The duties of the faculty advisor shall include assisting other officers in the performance of their duties, providing advice to the club as requested, and serving as a liaison between the club and the University.

9) ELECTIONS AND TERMS
The officers shall be elected during the spring semester of each year to serve a term of one calendar year starting at the beginning of summer semester. Elections shall be by secret written ballot, with a majority of those present being required to elect. The election meeting shall be announced to the membership at least two weeks prior to the meeting, and for the election purposes those present shall constitute a quorum.

10) MEETINGS
Th University of Georgia Mathematics Club shall meet at least once each semester except during the summer. The officers of the Club shall arrange the agenda in progress. A majority of the members shall constitute a quorum for conducting business.

11) AMENDMENTS
These Bylaws may be amended by a majority of those present at a meeting provided a quorum is present, two of the student officers are present, and the proposed amendment has been announced to the membership at least two weeks prior to the meeting.
