President Michael Adams presented Dr. Robert Hill, Associate Professor in the University of Georgia College of Education, with the President's Fulfilling the Dream Awards during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast on January 18, 2008. Dr. Hill has dedicated his time to studying anti-oppression education, gender and race in organizational settings, sexual orientation and gender justice, human rights education in an international context, environmental justice and racism, activism as the practice of education for social change, diversity instruction and adult education. After starting at the university, Hill began to put his knowledge to use by bringing together the Campus Climate Research Group, whose report "In the Shadow of the Arch: Safety and Acceptance of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Students at the University of Georgia," was a monumental step forward for the university's LGBTQ students at UGA and outlined possible solutions. Congratulations Dr. Hill!!
On December 15, 2007, the Bolivian Constituent Assembly unveiled the final and definitive text of the new Bolivian constitution. Article 14, paragraph II, of the document states explicitly that: "The State prohibits and punishes all forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation [and] gender identity." If this text of the Bolivian constitution is ratified, Bolivia will be the first country in the world to protect gender identity-related concerns. Also, Article 66 of the new constitution says that, "Men and women are guaranteed the exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights."
Nepal must enact laws ensuring gay rights and strike current discriminatory measures, according to a ruling by its Supreme Court. The ruling was in response to a petition by four gay-rights groups, a court spokesman said. The country currently prohibits homosexuality, and it wasn't clear whether the decision would nullify that law.
