The ISL Umbrella

ISL’s Advisory Support for Organizations within the ISL Umbrella

ISL provides advisory and budgetary support for all of the ISL organizations as well as leadership training and support throughout the year.  Additionally, each ISL group has an ISL staff member listed as at least one of their organizational advisors.  The ISL staff considers it a privilege to work with such a large number of talented student leaders who are passionately committed to international education and global awareness.

Organizational Responsibilities

The ISL organizations are responsible for maintaining the purposes, mission, goals, and activities of their organizations within the guidelines and regulations established by the University.  They are also responsible for sharing appropriate cultural and educational knowledge about internationalization initiatives with the UGA and Athens communities through ISL events and programs as well as through their organizational activities.

Organizational Classifications

Organizational Classifications under the ISL Umbrella

Within the thirty student International Student Organizations (ISOs) advised under the ISL umbrella, there are two main types of organizations.  The first classification focuses on the nationality or geographical region of a group of students.  The second type includes organizations that have a multinational perspective.  All ISL groups are officially registered student organizations at The University of Georgia.

For students interested in starting a brand new student organization, visit the Campus Life website www.uga.edu/campuslife  for instructions regarding UGA’s process for creating a new student group.

wJoin the ISL Umbrella

Typically, ISL advises up to thirty student organizations each semester.  New groups wishing to join the ISL umbrella must participate in an interview process with ISL staff.  During this interview, potential groups are advised concerning ISL services and policies.  They also receive information regarding organizational responsibilities for groups under the ISL umbrella.  Depending on the time of year there may be a waiting list for organizations wishing to join ISL, so contact our staff early for an appointment.
