Faculty research Projects

The Faculty Research Projects Database is a listing of on-going, faculty-mentored research projects, for which faculty are actively recruiting interested and qualified undergraduates. While there are numerous opportunities listed, this is NOT an exhaustive list. Please remember that any full faculty member can serve as a research mentor and lead an Honors Undergraduate Research/Thesis course. Faculty who have posted their research projects here have worked with CURO students in the past and are eager to do so again. The database:

  • Provides a centralized list of some—not all—current research opportunities for undergraduate students.
  • Allows students to search projects by discipline, school, department, or professor.
  • Provides a brief description of the project, a list of minimum qualifications, and the faculty mentor’s name.

Contacting Project Mentors

Before contacting faculty, please review the following information.

Use email to make initial contact with faculty. Make certain you are employing the following professional structure:

  • Use your UGA Mail email account, as this is always preferred.
  • Make certain to include a professional salutation (i.e. “Dear Prof. or Dr._________”).
  • Make certain that you clearly identify:
    • your name
    • your year
    • why you are writing
    • your desire to meet with the mentor to discuss his or her research and the possibility of he or she serving as your research mentor
    • and a whole week’s worth of specific days and times when you can meet with the faculty member.

Remember to be patient enough to give faculty time to respond, but be prepared to send a second email and follow up as necessary.
