Theatre rising - Around the Arch December 2009 Issue Georgia Theatre owner Wilmot Greene in early November took media on a tour of the inside of the Georgia Theatre, which was gutted by fire on June 19. Greene has announced plans to rebuild the theater and has launched a fundraising drive to cover the cost—estimated to be upwards of $3 million. To raise money he has partnered with The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to restore buildings of historic and cultural importance. The Georgia Trust has established a fund to accept tax-deductible donations toward rebuilding the Georgia Theatre. To contribute, go to http://www.georgiatrust.org/preservation/georgiatheatre.php. A documentary of the theater, which dates back to the 1920s and has hosted more than 10,000 musical acts, also is in the works.
