Historic stream restored - Around the Arch December 2008 Issue An historic stream near North Campus has been restored to its original state, revealing cobblestones, railroad ties and rocks under decades of dirt and debris. The UGA physical plant undertook the restoration at Spring and Fulton streets, where early Athenians are believed to have drawn their water. The spring is believed to be the reason UGA stands where it is today. A brick wall near the spring also was restored with wood beams and authentic railroad hardware. During the restoration project, UGA landscape designers stocked the area with native, water-loving plants such as spikerush, Juncus, Carex and Hydrocotle.
