Grant for rabies vaccine study - Around the Arch
December 2011 Issue
A $4.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health will enable the College of Veterinary Medicine to collaborate with other institutions to test a rabies virus vaccine that could be administered after the disease sets in. Now people who have been bitten must seek immediate treatment if they suspect they have been exposed to rabies, but this vaccine could offer an interventional cure for those who have already contracted rabies and have symptoms of the disease.
