Chip Pryles - First Person
March 2010 Issue
“Jimmy Buffett came to Athens in 1979 or 1980 as the year’s major University Union concert. I hung out all day at the Holiday Inn where Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band were staying and saw Buffett and his harmonica player, Greg ‘Fingers’ Taylor, several times as they passed through the lobby. My roommate, Scott Maughon, played on the UGA baseball team so we gave a practice jersey to a friend who worked for the University Union and asked him to give it to Jimmy Buffett. The guy told us to have the name ‘Buffett’ sewn on the back of the jersey. We did and he wore it onstage.” — Chip Pryles (BS ’81)
