Back to the Gulf - Around the Arch
September 2013 Issue
Marine scientist Samantha Joye, a lead researcher following the Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico three years ago, headed back to the gulf this summer to organize the first research effort following the Hercules natural gas well blowout in late July. The research party included scientists from various consortiums studying the ecosystems in the gulf. The team collected sediment and water samples from areas near the rig and studied biological communities and activities. They will compare those with samples collected down-current from the site.
