150 years of service to Georgia - Around the Arch
June 2012 Issue
UGA celebrates its history as a land-grant institution this year, the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act, named for U.S. Rep. Justin Smith Morrill, who introduced the act. The legislation provided states with funding and direction to found land-grant universities and strengthen agricultural and engineering education at the newly founded institutions. UGA became a land-grant institution in 1872. For more on the Morrill Act and UGA, go to http://outreach.uga.edu/index.php/about_pso/the_morrill_act_at_uga.
