Letter from the President of the UGA Alumni Association

Trey Paris

The impact of the UGA Alumni Association is far-reaching. We serve a large alumni base of more than a quarter million graduates worldwide. Growth in our Alumni Association is at a record high. While many alumni programs have seen limited expansion, the UGA alumni association has experienced unprecedented growth. In FY ’08 our membership increased 16 percent—tops in the nation. We could not have done it without the support of our world class alumni. Countless numbers of graduates continue to give their time, talents and resources to their alma mater.

To stay engaged with our alumni base, we continue to produce top notch programs. Given the high concentration of UGA alumni in the metro Atlanta area, we designed some of our programs to reach graduates where they work. Such is the case with our Red & Black Alliances. Just this year we met with UGA alums at Delta Airlines, Turner Broadcasting, Centers for Disease Control and Sun Trust. Other gatherings have been held at The Southern Company and Chick-fil-A.

Our Educator Appreciation Series continues the thread of meeting graduates where they work. Within the past year we have visited some 50 public and private schools in the Athens and Atlanta areas, meeting more than 1,000 UGA-educated teachers and administrators. We also have programs designed to meet with alums outside the office, such as our Game Watching parties, Chapter and Club events and Alumni Gatherings at restaurants.

I also want to mention our Student Alumni Association. Membership in this group has exceeded 3,000 for the first time ever. The Athens staff does an amazing job telling the great story of our 174 year legacy to current students and how membership in this great organization will help them after graduation. I encourage you to sponsor a student, it’s only $20 a year. For information about the Student Alumni Association or any of our programs, please visit our web site at http://www.uga.edu/alumni.
