UGA was ranked 18th in the nation for doctoral degrees awarded to African- American students in 2007, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education. UGA's 2006 ranking was 21.

The Graduate School began formalized inclusiveness programming in 1999 as an effort to help recruit, retain and graduate its students. Enrollment has consistently grown since then, increasing three percent from 2006 to 2007.
