Deirdre Conneely came to the Georgia Museum of Art from the American Federation of Arts in New York City. While in New York she had worked at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Morgan Library & Museum and had graduate internships at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Conneely received her bachelor's degree in art history and French from the University of Connecticut and her master's degree in art history with a concentration in museum studies from City College of the City University of New York. her thesis, "Losing the Collection: Museums and Claim of Ownership," explored the repatriation of art objects worldwide.
