On March 3, 2009, the Georgia Museum of Art broke ground on its Phase II expansion and launched GMOA on the Move, a state- and nationwide initiative of offsite programs and exhibitions. Due to construction, the museum offices are currently located in the former visual arts building on Jackson Street on UGA's North Campus. Although the galleries and shop are temporarily closed, special calendar events are still open to the public, and gift items are available from our new Web shop. Please visit the museum's virtual galleries in Second Life and view the calendar for a complete listing of GMOA on the Move events, including Family Days, Just My Imagination and Art Adventures.
The Georgia Museum of Art is scheduled to reopen in early 2011.
These monthly programs for families include a gallery activity and tour of an exhibition followed by a hands-on art activity in the classroom. The program is designed to educate families about the current exhibitions on view at the museum and acquaint them with the world of fine art. Refreshments are provided. Family Day programs are sponsored by the Heyward Allen Motor Co., Inc., Heyward Allen Toyota, Yellow Book, and the Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art. Please call the education department at (706) 542-4662 to be added to our mailing list.
Just My Imagination, a year-long community outreach program from the Georgia Museum of Art, is an exciting way for groups to discover their creativity and learn from local artists who represent the best that Georgia has to offer. Available free of charge to community centers and libraries throughout the state, these workshops are designed to provide participants with a meaningful exploration into the imaginative side of art at your own location. Your organization may host any one of the four workshops developed to spark the imaginations of both young and old, giving individuals a basic foundation from which they can build their skills long after the class has ended for ongoing activity and enjoyment.
Just My Imagination workshops are recommended for groups of all ages. The instructors are experienced in adapting their classes to meet the needs of the groups in their age and skill level. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
This program is sponsored by the Turner Family Foundation in memory of Nancy C. Turner and the Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art.
The workshops are held on Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. To request a brochure or schedule a workshop, visit this page or call the Georgia Museum of Art's education department at (706) 542-4662. Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis as funding permits.

Art Adventures: Folk Art
This summer, the Georgia Museum of Art will host its third annual community-wide outreach program. These one-hour workshops are held at community organizations in and around Athens-Clarke County for organized groups and will be based on folk art from the museum's collection. Children will learn about the subjects, techniques and materials folk artists use and create their own art inspired by the works they see. Registration will begin on May 11. For more information, please call 706.542.GMOA (4662) or visit our website at www.uga.edu/gamuseum. Sponsored by the W. Newton Morris Charitable Foundation.
