Lecture to explore extinction
The Anthropocene Lecture Series will begin with “Extinction in a Changing World” by professor of cell biology Mark A. Farmer on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. in the UGA Chapel. The lecture is free and open to the public. Farmer is chair of the division of biological sciences in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and organizer of the lecture series.
Recreational Sports begins intramurals registration
The UGA Recreational Sports program has begun registration for a variety of intramural sports, from soccer to golf to Frisbee. Entry fees and registration deadlines vary for each team sport. Author to discuss ‘Farmageddon'
Author and activist Philip Lymbery will speak about his book "Farmageddon: The True Cost of Cheap Meat" Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. in Room 171 of the Miller Learning Center. Lymbery is chief executive of Compassion in World Farming and a prominent commentator on the effects of industrial farming. He will discuss how factory farming harms human health, the environment and the well-being of animals.
