  1. Mary Frances Early returns to campus for annual lecture

    Mary Frances Early, the University of Georgia's first black graduate, returned to campus in April for the annual lecture named in her honor.  Early credited Dr. Maurice Daniels as the first person affiliated with UGA to reach out to her after she received her degree, some 30 years after the fact.  He discovered her while working on a documentary and book; Daniels was guest speaker for the 9th annual lecture.

  2. Ninth annual Mary Frances Early Lecture

    Dr. Maurice Daniels, dean and professor with the University of Georgia School of Social Work and civil rights scholar, delivered the ninth annual Mary Frances Early Lecture April 15th in the UGA chapel, sponsored in part by Graduate and Professional Scholars.  The topic was "Unfinished Business: 21st Century Civil Rights Movement."

  3. Twenty-fourth Annual Holmes/Hunter Lecture

    Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears delivered the 24th annual Holmes-Hunter Lecture April 9 in the UGA chapel. Sears is the first woman to serve as chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and the first black woman to serve as a superior court judge in Georgia after her 1988 election. She has served as chief justice since July 2005 and plans to retire in June and begin teaching at the UGA School of Law.
