Anti-Bias Advisory Group
In an effort to ensure that the University of Georgia fosters a welcoming and accepting environment representative of persons of all backgrounds, the Office of Institutional Diversity formed the Anti-Bias Advisory Group (ABAG). The focus of this commission is to examine how we, as a university, address issues of bias and hate on our campus by reviewing our current bias reporting system and making recommendations for institutional change.
Campuses across the nation have been experiencing negative behaviors and actions toward diverse groups. The goal of this group is to respond to those students, faculty, and staff who have been adversely affected by instances involving incidents of bias and hate on the basis of that individual’s race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability or any other protected classification. The group’s focus will be on the following:
- Review and analyze the existing bias complaint reporting system and the most current bias complaint data;
- Establish an accessible anonymous bias reporting system and response protocol ;
- Develop a plan to evaluate and respond to the effectiveness of the reporting system after implementation.
Upon completion of the above tasks, ABAG will make recommendations to university leadership of the revised protocol for institutional responses to bias complaints and acts by individuals and groups. The recommendations will be in the form of a report that will be distributed for review and comments to the offices of the president, senior vice president and provost, vice president of student affairs, and others as appropriate.
