Dr. Santanu Chatterjee

I am currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business. Prior to joining UGA's Economics Department in 2001, I earned my PhD from the University of Washington. My basic training in Economics began in India, where I earned a Bachelor's degree from St. Xavier's College, Calcutta in 1994, and a Master's degree from the Delhi School of Economics in 1996.

My research interests lie at the intersection of economic growth and development. In the last seven years, I have researched and published on topics such as foreign aid, economic growth, and the privatization of infrastructure. My current research focuses on the link between government spending and inequality, fungibility of foreign aid, and social and religious divisions that affect access to public goods in developing countries. I teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in Macroeconomics and International Economics. I have been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, the University of California at Berkeley, the Hamburg Institute for International Economics, and the University of Hamburg.
