Actress-comedian Melissa Rauch brings her stand-up act to UGA

Melissa Rauch mlamotte@uga.edu ATHENS, Ga – The University Union Student Programming Board at the University of Georgia will present actress and comedian Melissa Rauch on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Ballroom. Rauch’s performance will be preceded by local comedians doing standup in “Local Laughs Live” at 7:15 p.m.

Melissa Rauch’s television work includes roles in HBO’s “12 Miles of Bad Road” and in ABC’s primetime series “Dirty Sexy Money.” She is also a regular weekly panelist on VH1’s “Best Week Ever.” Her film work includes appearances in the 2006 motion picture “Delirious” and in the upcoming comedy “Thunder Geniuses.”

Rauch has garnered rave reviews for her award winning portrayal of the president’s daughter in her one-woman show, “The Miss Education of Jenna Bush.” The role netted her two awards at the 2005 New York Fringe Festival. Afterward, Rauch was invited to perform the piece at HBO’s “US Comedy Arts Festival” in Aspen, Colorado.

As a member of the political satire group Gross National Product, Rauch toured the country and participated in the group’s off-Broadway run in New York. Her sold-out shows at colleges and universities nationwide prompted MTV’s “TRL” program to name her “Best College Comedian” in 2005.

Tickets are free for students with valid UGACards and $5 for non-students, and they are available at the Tate Student Center Cashier’s Window, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 706-542-6396 or go to www.uga.edu/union.
