Honors Program
The Honors Program at the University of Georgia is one of
the oldest and most respected Honors programs in the United
States. It is recognized for its high standards and the opportunities
it offers undergraduates in all disciplines. Admission to
the Honors Program is highly competitive, and the program’s
students represent only ten percent of UGA’s undergraduate
population. Honors students are highly motivated undergraduates
who are committed to making the most of the many educational
opportunities available at UGA.
The Center for Undergraduate
Research Opportunities (CURO)
Part of the Honors Program at the University of Georgia, the
Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) promotes
opportunities for undergraduates to engage in research with
premier research faculty. The center operates on the premise
that it is possible for both young students and faculty members
to cooperatively engage in the creation of knowledge. Research
faculty members who participate in the CURO program consider
students as partners in a learning community, and many students
find that they develop mentoring relationships focused on
conducting research. All undergraduate students are eligible
to participate in the CURO program.
Foundation Fellowship
The Foundation Fellowship is UGA's most prestigious undergraduate academic
scholarship program and is awarded to approximately 20 first-year students
each fall. It provides a stipend that approximates the cost of attendance
and offers individual travel-study grants, group travel-study opportunities,
and research and academic conference grants. Foundation Fellows also have
the opportunity to participate in a variety of additional enrichment
activities, such as dinner seminars with UGA and visiting faculty. High
school students must apply for the Foundation Fellowship early in the fall
of their senior year.
Bernard
Ramsey Honors Scholarship
The Ramsey Honors Scholarship is awarded to approximately 20 to 25 entering
first-year students each fall. The Ramsey Scholarship provides an annual
$4500 stipend for in-state students (in addition to the HOPE Scholarship)
and a $7,200 stipend (in addition to an out-of-state tuition waiver) for
out-of-state students. The scholarship also includes a $3,000 travel-study
grant. Consideration for this scholarship is through the application for the
Foundation Fellowship.
Honors Internship Programs
Honors Internship Programs place students in summer internships in Washington DC, New York, and Savannah. Internship sites include congressional offices, law firms, media companies, private corporations, think tanks, and nonprofit organizations. Placements are determined by a variety of factors, including a student?s academic interests, professional goals, and skills. Interns work an average of forty hours a week for a minimum of eight weeks, and receive a stipend to offset travel and living expenses.
Honors International Scholars Program
The Honors International Scholars Program provides opportunities for second- and third-year honors students to engage in international study or internships by offering 30-40 scholarships per year, ranging from $2500 to $5000. Awards are merit-based, and the amount of each award will depend upon program costs, individual financial needs, and overall resources available. Most awards are earmarked for travel to Asia, Latin America, and Africa. However, a limited number of awards may be given to students representing a diverse range of locations and interests, including service, research, and first-time travel abroad.
William Moore Crane Leadership Scholarship
The William Moore Crane Leadership Scholarship awards approximately
four $1000 scholarships per year to Honors students who have
excelled academically and exhibited superior leadership skills
while attending the University of Georgia. This scholarship
is available to third-year Honors students and can be renewed
for one year.
