Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is one of the oldest and most distinguished journalism and mass communication programs in the country. Comprised of three departments—advertising and public relations, journalism, and telecommunications—Grady offers two graduate degrees and seven undergraduate majors including advertising, broadcast news, magazines, newspapers, public relations, publication management and telecommunication arts.

Currently, the College enrolls about 1,396 third- and fourth-year professional-status undergraduate students, 65 master’s students and 28 Ph.D. students. About 1,070 first- and second-year students are classified as pre-journalism majors and are taking the liberal arts core in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Grady College is home to a number of influential centers, institutes, and professorships, as well as WNEG-TV and the George Foster Peabody Awards, internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes for excellence in electronic media. Grady’s faculty are renowned for their research distinctions and teaching honors, including three Meigs Awards (UGA’s highest honor for teaching excellence), a Freedom Forum Teacher of the Year and a Regents’ Award for Excellence in Teaching.
